●Coal Industry
Foundation of the Industry
Datong coal field has a total deposit of 37.6 billion tons. In 2002, there were altogether 108 coal industry companies, with 144,300 employees and a capital of RMB 19.674 billion, accomplished a sales income of RMB 10.256 billion. The course coal production was 74,540,000 tons, the capability of washing and choosing coal was 30 million tons and the export capacity was 100 million tons.
Goal of Development
To improve the estabishment of purified recourse base, holding the main point of concentration, high efficiency and safety. To put more energy to the projects of the 15 million tons-coal mine and coal washing factory of Tashan Industry Park, 8 million tons-Tongxin Coal Mine, 20 million tons-Yungang Coal Center, 1.5 million tons-washing of Hunyuan and 4 million tons of Huihai  Company. In 2007, course coal production will have an increase of 25.6 million tons and the gross production will exceed over 100 million tons, the capacity of choosing and washing has an increase of 3.65 million tons and the whole capacity of washing and choosing exceed over 60 million tons, which is twice of that in 2002.

●Power Industry
Foundation of the Industry
In 2002, there were seven enterprises in power industry, with 5300 employers and capital of RMB 3.631 billion. They accomplished a sales income of RMB 2.142 billion, produced 8.626 billion kilowatt. The loading capacity was 1415MW.
Goal of Development
To attract the investment of big power corporations within and outside Shanxi Province with the strong superiority of our high quality power coal. In the course of establishment, we will pay more attention to the development of adit mouth and coal grangue power plants. In 2007, the new loading capacity will come up to 4000MW, increasing 2585MW, which is 1.83 times of that in 2002.

●Machine Industry
Foundation of the Industry
In 2002, there were altogether 48 machine industry enterprises in Datong, with 23,000 employees and a capital of RMB 4.39 billion, which accomplished a sales income of RMB 2.485 billion. Their main products are electric locomotives, diesel motors, gear boxes of car, whole sets of agricultural machines and apparatuses. All these enterprises already have considerable ability of casitng, processing, caulking punching press and coating.
Goal of Development
With the powerful foundation of equipment manufacture in Datong, we are to put more energy in developing the new motive power equipments of high efficency, power saving and environment portection and pay more attention to the projects of 30,000 diesel and methyl alcohol motor, 65,000 gear boxes for heavy trucks, 30,000 gear changing controller for gear boxes of heavy trucks, 300,000 turbo-chargers and 30,000 crank axles. In 2007, the sales income will be RMB 5 billion with newly increasing RMB 2.5 billion, twice of that in 2002.

●Chemical and pharmaceutical Industry
Foundation of the Industry
In 2002, there were altogether 49 chemical and pharmaceuical industry enterprises with 17,600 employees and a capital of RMB 2.913 billion. They accomplished a sale income of RMB 1.892 billion.
Goal of Development
We will make the chemical industry catch the speed international development fashion and put more emphasis on pay the development of coal chemical industry, acetyence chemical industry. We are to put more energy to the first period Datong coal chemical industry-cleaning energy co-operation projects of 600,000 tons of Methanol carbinol and its processing, 30,000 tons of chloroprene rubber, 20,000 tons of viscose fiber, 50,000 tons of millionicron bentonite, processing of 150,000 tons of coaltar. We will rapidly complete the GMP innovation of the pharmaceutical industry and put more energy to the development of the recourse medicine and typical medicine by taking advantage of our typical climate. In 2007, the sales income will come up to RMB 7.6 billion, newly increasing RMB 5.7 billion, which is twice of that in 2002.

●Metallurgical Industry
Foundation of the Industry
In 2002, there were altogether 23 metallurgical industry enterprises in Datong, with 7,200 employees and a capital of RMB 1.564 billion. They accomplished a sales income of RMB 1.218 billion.
Goal of Development
We will grasp the favorable market opportunity for black metal and expand the business rapidly and put more energy to the innovative projects of Shanxi Tongjia Steel and Iron Co., Ltd., Nanjiao Quanfu Steel Factory, Datong Yanggao Jingguang Ferroalloy Co., Ltd.. For the nonferrous metal industry, we will put more energy to the sustainable development and step forward to high technology taking advantage of our superiority of recourse. We are to pay more attention to the projects of highly pure magnesium, typical magnesium alloy, chemical silicon, Silal V and so on. In 2007, the sales income will come up to RMB 9.2 billion, increasing RMB 8 billion, which is twice of that in 2002.

●Construction Material Industry
Foundation of the Industry
In 2002, there were altogether 65 construction material industry enterprises with 15,800 employees and a capital of RMB 3.475 billion. They accomplished a sales income of RMB 1.172 billion, of which the cement manufacturing industry had a sales income of RMB 0.379 billion, with the productive ability of 3.2 million tons and production of 2.42 million tons.
Goal of Development
While increase the output rapidly, we will expand the varieties of our products, adopt new methods and improve the quality of our products and produce cement of low alkali. We are to put more energy to build a set of large scale projects. In 2007, the production will come up to 10 million tons, the newly increasing productive ability of 6.8 million tons, which is 2.13 times of that in 2002.

●Distinguishing Agriculture
Foundation of the Industry
We have large scale of civilized land an many kinds of land recourse and the superiority of biological recourse, which is fit for both woods and agriculture, and also fit for growing addable grass of poultry and green food, such as pork, beef, mutton, vegetable like tomato, eggplant, pepper and potato, course grain such as buckwheat, naked oats, green beans, millet, corn and so on. Datong is the meat, vegetable and course grain base for Beijing, Tianjin and Tangshan.
Goal of Development
We will expand the production of vegetable, course grain and reputed distinguishing products, develop the grain and grass saving cow and sheep, develop economic woods, especially the apricot, grape and so on, and at the same time realize the income increase of agricultural products processing through developing a group of strong and key enterprises.

●Commodity Circulation
Foundation of the Industry
Datong is located at the juncture of Shanxi Province, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Reagion and Hebei Province and has been reputed for trade center beyond the Great Wall along the history. There are more than 260 transaction markets of coal, construction, metal material and trivial goods. The gross social consuming amount in 2003 reach RMB 11.28 billion. Datong plays an important role as centre of commodity circulation anong the juncture of Shanxi Province, Hebei Province and Inner Mongelian Autonomous Region.
Goal of Development
It has been planned to establish a well organized distribution network and circulation system on the base of multi-economy, to improve goods distribution by expanding Yunzhong Market, Food and Oil Transaction market, Construction Material, Meat and Food Wholesale Market, Coal Market and Metal Material Market.

●Tourist Business
Foundation of the Industry
Being rich in tourist recourses, Datong is reputed as Buddhism Holly Land and the city of gragon screen wall. The ancient architecture and relics within the city such as Yinxian Wooden Pagoda, Wutaishan Mountain and other interesting places make Datong the centre of tourist hot zone of North Shanxi Province. Yungang Grottoes is one of the three treasure houses of grottoe arts in China which was constructed in AD.453 containing 51,000 statues and was listed in the World Cultural Heritage in 2001. Hengshan Mountain is the North Mountain of the Five Sacred Mountains of China. Being the historical relic under the protection of state government level, it gained its fame for ancient architectural built on precipitiuos cliff and stone caligraphy.
Goal of Development
While consrtuctiong affiliated facilities of Yungang Grottoes and Hengshan Mountain, it has been planned to explore a group of new tourisr items so as to form the tourist zone connecting Hengshan Mountain and Wutaishan Mountain within and Beijing, Xian, Huhhot and Taiyuan without.

●Transportation
Foundation of the Industry
The operating railway of the city is 1157.6 km, the freight transport amount is 136.91 million tons, passenger transport is 8.67 million. The length of road is 4,332 km, of which 110 km is high way and 4,144 km belong to level road, the freight transport amount is 63.71 million tons and passenger transport is 17.68 million. The freight transfer amount is 75.6 billion tons per kilometre.
Goal of Development
Taking four high ways connecting Datong and neighbourhood as main network with the suplemwntary of second-level high way among the districts and counties within Datong, and asphalt road limking the viliges, it has been planned to establish well developed communication network between Datong and its neighbourhood with No.108, No.208 and No.109 national road. It will make the cities within Shanxi province connected with highway, counties with second level road, villages with asphalt road. Aril transportation is also the focus of development plan.
