Hunyuan County

    Situated in north-east of Shanxi province at 113°22’---113°58 longitude and 39°21’--39°53’ latitude, connecting with Guangling county in the east,Yin county in the east ,Lingqiu county in the south ,Datong Yanggao county in the north. Hunyuan county has a total area of 1966 square kilometers with a population of 340000 with 12 countries,6 towns,358 villages under its jurisdiction. It’s 57 kilometers long from north to south, 52 kilometers wide from east to west. It’s one of the largest counties in Datong. It’s the key county for the state council to relieve poverty.
    Hunyuan has a long history. At the early stone age there are human beings to live. It’s one of the earliest development regions for human beings. There were many celebrities in history. There are remarkable climate differences. The mountain area is 1067 square kilometers, the hilly land, 563 square kilometers, basin land, 336 square kilometers with the highest elevation, 2333 meters, the lowest, 1050 meters. The cultivated land is 697000 mu, forest land is 310000mu, water land is 70000 mu .
    It’s rich in natural resources. There are many wild animals wit 8 rare animals. The area of hoantchy roots is 280000 mu with average output of dry hoantchy roots 500000—700000 kilogram. The proven mineral resources are 20 varieties such as coal, iron copper, silver, sulphur, eolite, feldspar, granite. The total deposit for coal is 4.4 billion ton with coal area of 320 square kilometers. It’s one of the eight largest coal area in Shanxi. It has good industrial coal and raw material with calorific capacity of 5000—6000 Kcal/kg. The proven deposit of bentonite is 59 million ton with high quality. The deposit of zeolite is 0.16 billion ton granite, 0.193 billion cubic meter. The thickness of fluorite is 0.7---1 meters.
    It’s rich in tourist resources and famous tourist resort in north of China. It’s the hot tourist line connecting Wutai Mountain and Yungang Grottoes. There are 21 cultural relics at present, among them, 6 belongs to state key protection units. Hengshan Mountain is one of 44 key scenic spots first issued by the state council and also the birth place of Taoism. It’s state 4A grade scenic spot. Tangtou hotspring has a good reputation. It’s the first hot spring in north of China.
    Hunyuan county has a complete facility of transportation communication and power supply. It’s important road transportation hub in north of Shanxi .
    Granite industry is pillar industry in Hunyuan county. There are 20 exploitation enterprises. The products are sold to U.S Australia Japan Korea, Hengshanqing brand granites are famous in the world stone market called Shanxi black. There are 77 stone processing enterprises processing plate 120 square meters, forming industrial system of exploitation processing transportation with revenue of 45million yuan to the district finance and tax of 20 million yuan.
    Tourism industry has great potential for development. Hunyuan government develops tourism vigorously with the aid of Hengshan Mountain and Xuekong temple. It successfully held 2 Hengshan mountaineering festivals ,3 Hengshan cultural tourism festivals, and China Yungang ·Hengshan cultural festival.
    Chemical industry has a bright future. The deposit of bentonite is very large and easy to exploitation. At present Taiyuan Nawei Company, Beiyue Mining Company, Sanhe bentonite Company established the plant in Hunyuan with the total investment of 70 million yuan and output of 100000t/y.
    Hunyuan is rich in coal resources. It can reach output of 3 million t/y. At present the output is 1 million ton with tax of 10 million yuan. In 2004 through geological prospecting Xiahan coal field was found with the deposit of 0.24 billion ton. At the same time 1.5 million ton coal washing plant is listed as the key project in Shanxi province with the investment of 69 million yuan .
    The unique geographical position and climate characteristics make them have advantage to develop featured agriculture. It has vegetable, hoantchy roots, apricot, animal husbandry, coarse grain as five industrial systems .At present the district has established base of 100000mu vegetables, 280000 mu hoantchy roots,90000mu apricot,240000mu coarse grain, 140000 pasture and formed Wucheng ecological economic zone, Longshoushan ecological animal husbandry economic zone, Longshan ecological hoantchy roots zone, Hengshan ecological tourism zone.
    Hunyuan government regards private economy as the principal part to push forward agriculture industrialization, township and drew up 33 preferential policies to support the private economy, 22 preferential policies for investment. It has invested 0.35 billion yuan to construct the district. At present there are 80 private enterprises with employees of 13000, 58 enterprises outside the district to set up plants in the district, over 10 private enterprises with the tax of above 1 million yuan .The tax of private enterprises account for 67% of the county finance.
